The belief

A Short folk tale:
Once there was a carpenter who had 2 daughters. Two year ago his elder daughter married a farmer in the village and the younger one got married few months ago with a potter. One day the man decided to visit their houses to know their well being. He went to the house of the elder daughter. Her daughter was happily married and her husband was a hard worker. He asked her daughter about her life and well being. The daughter replied "Father, I am happy with my life and family. You just need to pray for a good monsoon season this year so that the crop on which my living depends grows well".
The man left her house with a smile after knowing about her prosperous and happy life. He thanked god for it and wished that there is enough rainfall this year. From there the father went to visit his younger daughter. From a distance he saw her daughter helping her husband in his work. He saw that his daughter has quickly learned the art of making pots and now she can make beautiful pots. He saw that they have made enough pots and have left them in the sun to dry. The bigger vessels and pots are baked in the fire while the smaller ones are left in the sunlight to dry.
Daughter was delighted to see her father. The man asked her similar questions about her living and well being. The daughter in reply said “Father, I am thankful to you that you chose a very good man for me. I am happy with him. I just want you to pray to the lord that there shall be a weaker monsoon this year so that the rain does not wash away my clay vessels.”
**********************************************************************************
There are situations in life when you need something and you ask god to fulfil your wishes. That is the time when most of us find ourselves in difficulty. We call it our difficult struggling span of life. Also there are times in the life when a man can’t decide what is best for him. He cannot even ask the God for any favour. In such difficult times one can’t make endeavour nor he can sit waiting for something to happen. Such difficult times do not leave us with a choice. It is a lose-lose condition which makes us suffer. A bad thing not happened is a bad thing happened.
The problem lies in the way we pray to god. We are made to believe by the elders and the society that God is always there to help us out no matter how worse is our condition. We shamelessly ask God for the help without any hesitation. We think if we are good for others and has not committed anything bad in life (which I think most of us either believe or force ourselves to believe to lead a happy guiltless life) the god will take care of us. He will fight for us leaving us with obvious choices and path to lead. Obviously such things do not happen. Such believers in god shall wait forever for god to make a choice for them.
In contrast, a man who is true believer in God will start with a manipulated choice with a belief that God is with him and with the grace of lord he possesses the power to change the situation. Remember, a true believer in god is always strong no matter what the situation is and no matter what bad has happened to him. In every situation he shall believe that this is the best possible situation god has left him in and from now the path is easy enough to lead. For a believer no situation is too difficult and for a non-believer every situation is a “could have been better” situation.

  1. Hmm an interesting read bhai..after a long time..well not so long a few days after I read those nice status messages on thy blog..this story of a carpenter with two daughters..is seriously nice..one thing in believing God , the man need not be confused , he could go home, think pray to God for a good, nice monsoon that year, for his elder daughter's husband's crops to grow well , while come back to his younger daughter telling her to cover up the small mud pots, under a plastic or inside the house for a while till it rains so that they don't get spoiled..and heat it up inside while she is doing her cooking with the fire on. Hmm what do you say ?

  3. I bet you have never seen how does a potter bake his pots and neither u know that there was no plastic in those times when ppl were farmers and potters by occupation. Furthermore the story is used as a metaphor and the man is not really in trouble
